The benefits of kids martial arts in Raleigh are numerous. I should know! My parents put me in karate when I was 5. Now I’m 20 and can speak highly of the benefits.
We’ll talk about behavior, confidence, respect, discipline, community and self-defense for kids in Raleigh!
Gain Confidence
Children that struggle with confidence greatly benefit from taking martial arts classes. I’ve trained with and taught thousands of kids over the last 15 years and have seen confidence develop first hand!
I teach kids that confidence is something you can learn. I’m extremely confident now because of the principle I’m about to share. Developing a skill that you’re good at builds confidence. If you struggle with self worth, it gives you something positive about yourself to reflect on.
Kids feel confident when they do something well. I make sure to help all of my students feel confident in their skill. Our teaching style at Karate International is literally designed to make every student interaction a positive one!
Gain Respect
Our instructors set the example of what showing respect should look like. The philosophy is to lead by example. Students see how we treat others the way we want to be treated. We treat everyone like a member of our own family because we care for and love this community we have been trusted to lead.
We expect students to use good manners in interactions with us. Saying yes sir and yes ma’am are a lost art among the younger generations. We are here to change that!
Eye contact is also expected for all of our kids martial arts students. Interacting well with other human beings is one of the most important things there is to learn and apply. We make it a daily occurrence to teach it here.
Gain Discipline
I was a wild child! In one of my first karate classes at the age of 5, I was spinning on the floor and my foot collided with a little girl’s face. I wish I was making that up.
Martial arts taught me self control. I learned to control my body and mind through the physical practice of karate. This sport forces you to pay attention. It forces you to work hard to achieve your goals. It isn’t easy!
Doing difficult things builds discipline. This principle applies to anybody, regardless of age!
Gain Self-Defense
Being able to defend yourself protects you from physical and mental harm. Also, it builds confidence!
Learning to keep your hands up, how to throw punches and kicks, how to fall and stand back up safely and how to break a grip are all taught in our beginner curriculum. These are necessary skills to master if you want to feel confident in self defense.
We teach these skills to everyone that comes in our doors and puts on a uniform. It takes time to develop these skills, but is so worthwhile!
Gain Community
I met many of my childhood best friends at the dojo, two whom are in the picture above! A martial arts studio should be a welcoming and kind group of people all working towards the same goal as you. Community comes from united purpose.
We give kids something to unite and bond over. We do special events to give them time to bond and build friendships outside of class as well. It is such a blessing to hear when my students spend time with each other outside of class.
It is a place where kids of all kinds feel welcomed. I have ADHD and struggled to make friends as a kid. The dojo was my home, my place where I had purpose and community.
